Residency

Most residents apply between December and January, raise support over the late spring and summer, and begin the program in August. Residency applications are closed from August to November and will reopen on December 1 of each year. We do, however, make some exceptions to this, so feel free to email with questions and interest at any time!

The ideal resident has recently graduated from a traditional undergraduate education. We have created this experience with this season of life in mind.

The residency is a 23 month long development experience that begins in August of each year and ends in July after the second year.

Every resident works with a specific staff team within the church, and much of their weekly schedule will be determined by that team’s staff meetings & ministry events. However, each resident can expect to work a 40-50 hr work week with flexible hours, as many ministry events happen outside of the typical 8-5. Residents will also participate in virtual residency cohort meetings with Elementum to regularly gather with other residents for training and development.

Yes! Each resident is expected to support-raise their salary along with the associated ministry costs of the program. We provide support-raising coaching and accountability in order for each resident to effectively biuld and maintain a team of financial and prayer partners.

We have several reasons for asking our residents to raise support. First, we believe that raising financial support is rooted in Scripture. There are countless examples in the Bible from the Old Testament to the New of individuals and groups being financially supported by the community of faith to do the works of the ministry. While some individuals may receive their support from a church congregation, many others receive their support through the generous partnership of individual believers. As a Resident, you are not only raising money, you are developing a ministry support team that will be praying for you and involved in what God is doing through you in a very significant way. Finally, support raising allows our Residents to grow in their faith, seeing and experiencing God’s provision uniquely and specially. While this may seem like a daunting task, thousands of people all over the world effectively use this model of ministry.

No. Each resident is expected to secure their own housing within commuting distance of San Marcos.

While each resident is considered a full-time staffer, the Residency is a developmental program which means that though residents have ministry responsibilities, there is a large part of their weekly schedule purely devopted to learning and growth.

In order to participate, applicants must have a four-year degree or its equivalent to be eligible for residency.
